If you only read one book on abuse, it should be “Why does he do that? Inside the minds of controlling and angry men” by Lundy Bancroft.
I wish I had found this book years earlier in my marriage. It could have changed the trajectory of my healing journey – well, actually, now that I think about it – it did.
It was through reading the book that I really started to connect the dots – to see my relationship clearly – and to really start to work towards a healthy resolution to the insanity I was living. Hundreds of books on co-dependency, alcoholism, addiction, marriage, anger, parenting, psychology and recovery did not do what this one book did.
And I know it’s not just me. Hope Wears Heels found strength and clarity through “Why does he do that?” too.
This book is not just for victims and survivors, but supporters and those who seek to “get it” too. Abuse is a complicated thing, and Bancroft is able to clarify a lot of the confusion surrounding the psychological and sociological aspects of not only “Why does he do that” but also addresses the questions about why she stays.
